Gunstock RallyCross, May 22, 2004We missed our share of early-season rallycrosses with Carmine and I busy at college, or just unable to make the trip back for some reason. However, graduation frees up the weekends that much more. The car was tested plenty, with Adam taking her to the track a few times already. Adam was gone for the weekend, so Carmine picked the car up and we headed up to the Gunstock Recreational Area outside Gilford, NH for a day of racing. The day was wet, though the course held up a whole lot better than it ever did at Essex Junction. Carmine ran some strong early laps and we looked for improvement in the second series until he rolled a tire off the left-front rim (just like at Essex!). The difference was that, while at Essex the tire rolled on the last run, this was on the fourth run of the day, and we had left the spares at Adam's apartment, leaving us with an unseated tire on a bent rim and nothing to change it for (doubtful my donut spare would have the same bolt spacing as the Talon). Carmine did get the tire reseated (with some help) before the last run, but missing runs five and six cost him a shot at a solid overall time. That's OK, though. There's always next time.
